The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain to perform in Harrogate

The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain (NYBBGB), the UK’s leading brass ensemble for youngsters aged 12 to 18, is to perform in Harrogate next month.

Conducted by Bramwell Tovey, one of the world’s leading orchestral conductors, the 80-strong NYBBGB will be joined by guest soloist Sheona White, the solo tenor horn player with Black Dyke Band. The band will play at The Royal Hall in Harrogate on August 10.

The concert will feature a range of original music for brass band, as well as a number of arrangements and transcriptions.

The concert will follow a week-long residential training course held at Giggleswick School in Settle, during which time the youngsters will be coached and tutored by some of the UK’s leading brass and percussion players. These include cornet Phillip McCann (cornet), Mark Wilkinson (cornet), Alan Wycherley (soprano), Glyn Williams (euphonium), Phil Goodwin (tuba) and Simone Rebello (percussion.)

 

Philip Biggs, the Administrator of the NYBBGB said:

We are hugely looking forward to performing in Harrogate. The band features some of the UK’s leading future stars of the brass and percussion world. Therefore, if you wish to be inspired and hear some fantastic music making , then come along.

 

Guest soloist, Sheona White, said: 

It is a great honour to be invited by Bramwell Tovey to be guest soloist with the NYBBGB this summer. I am really looking forward to working with this extremely talented and inspirational group of young musicians.

 

The band performed at numerous venues in 2012, including London’s Royal Albert Hall, Cadogan Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall, as well as Snape Maltings, The Bridgewater Hall, The Sage in Gateshead and on BBC Radio 3.

Alumni of the NYBBGB include the current London Symphony Orchestra Principal Trumpet, Philip Cobb, former principal trumpet of the same orchestra, the legendary Maurice Murphy, and alumni of the NCBBGB include 2008 Young Musician of the Year, trombonist Peter Moore.
