Harrogate International Festivals first long weekend makes a stylish entrance with the Festivals’ signature style featuring some of the finest classical music experiences in Yorkshire.

Mishka Rushdie Momen is the first performance for the Young Musician programme. The youngest pupil ever admitted to the Purcell School, aged 6, Mishka performs Britten’s Notturno as part of the Britten Centenary celebrations across the UK. It promises to be a momentously moving performance from a rising young star. Catch Mishka at Wesley Chapel on Friday, 5 July 2013 at 1pm.

For those who have seen Armonico Consort: Concert by Candlelight before, you’ll know what a soaring sound 16 voices can be set in the atmospheric surroundings of St Wilfrid’s Church, lit purely by candlelight. Performing works such as Barber’s Agnus Dei interwoven by the timeless magical chants of Hildegard of Bingen, if you have yet to experience this outer-body sensation that leaves your hairs standing on end, make sure you catch the Armonico Consort this Friday, 5 July 2013 at 8pm.

There’s a chance to join in the UK-wide Britten Centenary celebrations with the Carducci String Quartet on Sunday, 7 July 2013 at Wesley Chapel, 7pm.

Exploring the theme ‘Britten and his influences – War and humanity’ – one of the UK’s most sought after string quartets play Haydn and Shostakovich as well as Britten’s extraordinary second quartet, written in 1945, after a tour to Germany with Menuhin where he performed for the survivors of concentration camps.
