Henshaws works with people affected by sight loss and other disabilities across the north of England. Through expert care, advice and training, the charity helps people to build the skills and independence they need, to achieve the future they want.

Speaking of the award Nicki Eyre, managing director of education and training at Henshaws, said:

The awards ceremony was a really positive occasion to celebrate the achievements of a wide range of local organisations, charities and individuals.

We’d like to thank everyone at Engage Mutual for choosing Henshaws to receive this award. It is absolutely wonderful for our staff to be recognised for all of the hard work and commitment that they give to the people they support.

Now in the eighth year the Local Hero Awards are run by Stray FM and supported by Harrogate-based Engage Mutual. Henshaws Society for Blind People follows in the footsteps of Saint Michael’s Hospice which won the prestigious Engage Mutual Community Heroes Award in 2012.
