Dales businesses “see the light” at renewable technology forum

2 July 2013

Business owners from in and around Nidderdale have “seen the light” at a renewable technology forum held in Pateley Bridge.

The event – organised by Nidderdale Plus – heard from two local renewable experts about the benefits of using green technology, including the latest energy-saving lightbulbs.

Nidderdale Plus is a non–profit organisation, set up to champion the rural area to the west of Harrogate – including Nidderdale, the Washburn Valley and Mashamshire.

Its aim is to keep services local, to support businesses and community organisations and to work in partnership to make a difference.

David Barclay, the managing director of Killinghall-based Barclay Electrical and Solar, spoke about the latest developments in energy-efficient LED lightbulbs, and the savings that can be made by fitting them in homes, at the workplace and in community buildings including village halls and churches.

He was joined at the podium by David Chappell, from Crompton Solar, whose company specialises in solar PV installations and works in close association with the Barclay team.

Jane Fowler, Nidderdale Plus Chairman, said:

Throughout the year we host a series of seminars and events to inform businesses and local people.

The solar presentation was very informative in terms of products available and, more importantly, the benefits they can deliver both environmentally and financially.

Work is currently underway at Hampsthwaite Village Hall, which includes environmental considerations.

With the cost of electricity, gas and oil rising annually, coupled with the fact that much of the area we cover is extremely remote, renewable energy is obviously a key consideration for many.
