Jail and drinking ban for Ripon man

21 June 2013

PoliceConrad Pinchin aged 27 and of Aismunderby Road in Ripon, pleaded guilty to wounding with intent, common assault and using threatening words and behaviour.

He was jailed for 16 months and banned from drinking in areas of the town following a conviction for assault.

Pinchin was sentenced at York Crown Court on 19 June 2013. He was given 15 months’ imprisonment for wounding, one month for common assault and three months for threatening behaviour. All sentences are to run concurrently.

He was also handed a five-year Criminal Antisocial Behaviour Order (CRASBO) which, once he is released from prison, will ban him from drinking alcohol or being drunk in designated, public areas of Ripon, entering the alcohol restriction zone between 7pm and 6am and entering any premises which are signed up to the Ripon Pubwatch scheme. The ban will last for five years.

The sentences follow an incident which took place in the early hours of Sunday 19 August 2012. Pinchin assaulted a 42-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman who had been enjoying a night out at the Matrix nightclub.

The assaults were totally unprovoked and resulted in the man requiring stitches to a head wound. The woman was spat at by Pinchin who was also threatening and abusive. While the woman was not physically injured, she was left very frightened and is now scared to go back to the market place.

Acting Inspector Andy Quaye of Ripon Safer Neighbourhood Team, said:

Pinchin deserves every minute of his sentence, his drink-fuelled actions on that night were disgusting.

This outcome sends a clear message that North Yorkshire Police will not tolerate such behaviour and will take action against those who cause disruption and intimidation in our community due to their drunken and antisocial lifestyle.

The sentence handed to Pinchin clearly demonstrates that our stance is backed up by our partners in the criminal justice system, including the crown court and sends a warning to any others who indulge in such appalling behaviour.
