RipShock kicks off for festival season

18 June 2013

Hundreds of young people are expected to attend the RipShock Festival when it returns to Ripon next month (July 6th).

The festival, which is organised by North Yorkshire County Council’s Youth Support Service and Connecting Youth Culture will include a host of local bands and DJs across two stages.

Purple Mafia, Snuff, and Summer City will play alongside headliners Rosie on the main stage. The festival will also offer young people opportunities to learn new art forms such as banner painting, drumming, circus skills and graffiti art as well as to play on a mobile skate park, to practise BMX bike riding and scooter tricks.

RipShock will take place at Ripon Youth Centre – based at Outwood Academy Ripon. The event is free but is limited to a 500 capacity, so organisers will be operating on a first come first served basis when the gates open at 3pm.

It is great that we are returning to Ripon for what promises to be a fantastic event after the success of last year. The Ripon and Harrogate area has an abundance of young talent, so it is great to be able to showcase that alongside opportunities for people to have a go at new things.

County Councillor Tony Hall, North Yorkshire’s Executive Member for the Youth Support Service said:

We hope as many people as possible will come along and join in with RipShock”, “The festival season will see a number of youth support service arts and music festivals across the county to share the impressive talent we have in our county and to enable young people to develop their creativity and try something new.
