Witnesses needed following collision near Middleham

PolicePolice have now left  the scene of a serious road collision near Middleham in the Leyburn area.

It was reported at 10.40am today (Monday 13 May 2013) and involves two vehicles, a light blue Ford Transit van and a burgundy coloured Citroen Berlingo van which collided on the A6108 near to bridge over the river Ure.

The drivers of both vehicles were airlifted to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough. The driver of the Transit has since been discharged from hospital. However, the driver of the Citroen, a local man, remains in hospital with serious injuries.

The road has reopened following a diversion for the collision investigators to examine the scene and the vehicles to be recovered.

Police are appealing to anyone who saw either vehicle prior to the collision or witnessed the crash to contact them.

The Ford Transit was travelling towards Middleham and the Citroen was travelling towards Leyburn when the collision occurred.

Any witnesses are asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 and pass information to the Force Control Room – quote reference 0118 of 13 May 2013.
