Harrogate boys conquer the 3 Peaks

13 May 2013

Ten boys from Harrogate have just walked the Yorkshire 3 Peaks in a very impressive time of under 10 hours, raising £2,260 for the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

The walk was the brain child of Year 10 student, Patrick Mayhew from Harrogate Grammar School, whose idea it was to gather his friends together to “do something challenging” to raise funds for charity. The Multiple Sclerosis Society was chosen as it is close to the family’s heart, personally knowing several friends who are young and suffer from the disease and yet they have always been extremely positive about life.

The Yorkshire 3 peaks challenge is 24.5mile and involves climbing 5,000 feet which needs to be completed in 12 hours. Accompanied by a few fathers and some of their friends, the boys set out from Horton in Ribblesdale on 4th May and despite some heavy winds and driving rain for the first three hours, completed the walk in a remarkable 10 hours.

The boys were Dylan Flesher, James Calvert, Brad Hope, Ollie Holden, Hakan Erbiler, Edward Lewis, Rob Worral and Patrick Mayhew (Harrogate Grammar School), Josh Osbourne (Rossett School) and Joe Milligan (Queen Ethelburga’s).

Commenting on the achievement Patrick Mayhew said “We would like to say thank you to everyone, especially Tim Thomson, Jonathan and Michael Flesher and Rustem Erbiler for walking with us and their help with donations – to have raised £2,260 is brilliant. A few of the adults were struggling a bit at the end but seemed to cheer up when they saw the pub sign back in Horton in Ribblesdale.”

The charity page is still open and donations are appreciated: www.justgiving.com/harrogatelads3peaks
