Solihull Moors 2 – 0 Harrogate Town

17 April 2013

Harrogate’s play off hopes took a nosedive when they slipped to a disappointing defeat at Solihull.

Town were without Beesley and Nowakowski through illness and Forrest was still recovering from an injury, Harrogate Townwhich meant a recall for Jonny Allan.

Allan was in early action when he released Chib Chilaka, but Jasbir Singh dived at his feet before he could pull the trigger.

Town gave as good as they got in a sterile first half in which the ball spent long periods in the air.

For Moors, a series of right wing crosses by the speedy, Dior Angus created problems for the Town defence and both Paul Bolland and Shane Killock made vital blocks, while Tom Kemp headed Luke Connolly’s centre into the grateful arms of Craig MacGillivray.

Town created pressure without really showing a cutting edge.

Allan twice provided chances for Colin Larkin, whose first attempt was scrambled away by Stuart Pierpoint, and just before the break, Singh turned his cross over the bar. Dwayne Samuels made a couple over overlapping runs down the right which lead to two consecutive Town corners, but on the hour Moors took the lead.

Gary Birch sent Darryl Knights away down the left wing and then positioned himself on the far post to score with a looping header from Knights deep centre.

Three minutes later hesitancy in the Town defence between Killock and MacGillivray, enabled Birch to nip in and square to Angus who netted from close range.

Dan Clayton and Craig Radcliffe replaced Chilaka and Matt Bloomer as Town looked for a foothold back into the game.

Samuels fired just over and Singh saved a couple of Radcliffe corners, as Town fought back.

Michael Woods replaced Adam Bolder and immediately created an opportunity for Larkin who headed over from close range.

As time began to run out, Clayton’s free kick had Singh scrambling across his goal to cover his far post, but it was Solihull who could have made it three when sub Sam Joseph raced clear but shot against MacGillivray’s legs.

Town now need a couple of wins to give them any hope of reaching the top five,so lets start by, hopefully securing a double over Halifax on Thursday evening.
