Senior Warden Lional Shrago introduces Western Primary School pupils to Harrogate Synagogue.

Senior Warden Lional Shrago opened the doors of Harrogate Synagogue to Year 5-6 pupils from Western Primary School, who had been studying Judaism as part of their curriculum.  The visit provided a wonderful opportunity for the children to see first hand their studies come to life.

The pupils heard a brief history of the Judaism religion and showed great interest in the customs and traditions of their local Synagogue.  The highlight of the visit was the appearance of the Torah, the central and most important document of Judaism.

Lional Shrago feels it is important to spread the word that Jews are very approachable people.

Lional Shrago said:

Children are very inquisitive and have open minds

By visiting the Synagogue they can see there is nothing to be afraid of in Judaism

Teacher Tim Broad added:

We have a diverse population and it is part of our school ethos to support the promotion of community cohesion.  We try to expose the children to different religions and it is wonderful to be able to visit such an establishment so close to our school.
