Cicada manages national food chain conference

27 March 2013

A major national conference being staged in the wake of the horsemeat scandal is being promoted and managed by Harrogate-based Cicada Communications.

The conference – Assuring the Integrity of the Food Chain – is the first of its type to be held in the UK following the revelations of horsemeat in the food supply chain.

cattle_herdCicada has been appointed by the event hosts – the York, North Yorkshire & East Riding Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) – to organise and manage the conference on Wednesday 24 April at the Food and Environment Research Agency (Fera) at Sand Hutton near York.

Up to 200 delegates – including food producers, manufacturers and retailers – are expected to attend the event which will examine how consumer confidence in the quality of meat in the food supply can be re-established.

Leading international and UK speakers will address the conference before delegates take part in break-out sessions looking at the practicalities of testing and traceability in the food chain. Key UK agencies will also be represented including Defra, the Food Standards Agency and the Food and Drink Federation.

Cicada managing director Di Burton said:

Research has shown that consumer confidence in the food supply chain has dipped considerably following the horsemeat scandal. This conference provides a great opportunity for experts to discuss the issues and look at potential solutions to improve transparency in the food chain.

It’s exciting to be involved in such a high profile event taking place in the heart of Yorkshire.
