Western Primary recreates life during wartime

11 March 2013

Year 3-4 pupils took to the 1940s streets of Harrogate to sample life as a child in wartime Britain when they put on a show for parents at Western Primary School. They have been studying the Second World War this term and in particular, how life was for the children back then. The children came to school dressed as evacuees, complete with ‘gas masks’, to perform WWII poetry recital and some impressive jive style dancing.

The most moving and tear jerking moments came as the children surrounded the audience and produced a fantastic performance singing some of the good old wartime favourites as ‘We’ll Meet Again’.

Miss Thompson, the leader of Year 3/4 was delighted with the enthusiasm that the children showed during the show, she said:

It has been a fantastic topic.

The children have really enjoyed it. There have been so many positive comments from parents too and it was fantastic to see so many parents, carers and grandparents at the show. There was some excellent feedback, reflecting how hard the children have worked throughout the term.

Well done everyone!
