6 February 2013

hospitalThe final report of the Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust Public Inquiry was published on Wednesday 6 February 2013.

Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust Public Inquiry was subject was prompted due to failings found
between 2005 and 2008 where conditions of appalling care were able to flourish in the main hospital serving the people of Stafford and its surrounding area.

The Francis Report is the result of the inquiry.

Chief Executive of Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust, Richard Ord, said:

We very much welcome the second Francis Report as an opportunity for everyone in the NHS to continually focus on the delivery of high quality care.

Quality is at the heart of all we do at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust. We always strive to get it right for every patient, every time, but recognise that sometimes things go wrong. When this happens, we do our best to listen and learn from any mistakes.

As part of our commitment to the delivery of high quality care, we have already increased nursing levels on our inpatient wards and introduced a Community Stroke Team, among other things. We will continue to invest in nursing and other initiatives, like the development of our brand new cancer unit, the Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre, which is currently under construction.

Although the Francis Report was prompted by serious concerns at one Trust in another part of the country, the lessons from there must be taken on by the whole NHS. We will be playing our part in examining the report closely to see what more we can do to improve the quality of care we deliver to ensure the continued confidence of those who use our services, both at Harrogate District Hospital and through our community based health services across North Yorkshire.
