Man’s jaw broken in Northallerton assault

PoliceNorthallerton police are appealing for witnesses to an assault in which a 39-year-old local man sustained serious facial injuries.

The assault occurred in the early hours, at around half past midnight on Saturday 22 December after the victim had been enjoying a Christmas night out in the town. He was attacked by another man on the corner of East Road and Friarage Street, opposite the Kwik-fit depot.

The victim’s jaw was broken in two places and he had to undergo extensive surgery which required his jaw to be wired for several weeks.

Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of the assault and witnessed the attack or the moments leading up to the incident.

Detective Constable Scott Nugent of Northallerton CID, said:

This was a nasty assault which left the victim with serious facial injuries resulting in surgery, nerve damage and him being only able to eat liquidised food for six weeks.

It’s important that anyone who saw what happened, including the lead up to the incident, contacts the police to help us establish exactly what happened.
