Knaresborough Camera Club saw what is believed to be a first in its 46-year history when it held its latest competition – wedded winners.
Two of the three categories in the monochrome competition were won by Wendy and Ian Ferguson. Wendy took the projected plus category – the club’s premier league – while her hubby took the honours in the projected category.
The top award in the category for best print went to Mike Wood.
Chairman Richard Bryant believes Wendy and Ian’s double is a first for the club.
Richard said:
It’s not uncommon to have couples taking part but I am not aware of an instance where partners have each taken the top slots in categories in the same contest.
And with standards rising and the contest attracting 120 images, the chairman said guest judge John Elvin had his work cut out.
Richard added:
The monochrome competition is the most popular among members but it’s probably the most challenging as the photographer really has to understand what works well and what doesn’t in this particular format. It’s been great to see our members putting into practice what they have learnt, this year, and in some cases, being bold with their compositions and choice of subject.
And the contest showed that members keep their competitive spirit alive even when they’re on holiday – each of the three winning shots were taken while on a break.
Ian’s shot “The Old Man of the Forest” was taken at an orangutan sanctuary at Bukit Merah, West Malaysia, and Wendy’s “Slot Canyon” in a Navajo reservation, Arizona. Mike Wood’s “Nellie and Ellie” was captured at France’s La Palmyre Zoo,
The club programme resumes after the Christmas and New Year break on Wednesday 9 January.
