Light up a life for a loved one who will be missed this Christmas

4 December 2012

A local woman is set to join hundreds of other families for a special remembrance event that celebrates the lives of loved ones who will be missed this Christmas.
Saint Michael’s Light up a Life is an annual event that gives local people an opportunity to remember someone special at a community ceremony.

Judy Hosie and her family, from Harrogate, have dedicated a light on the charity’s Christmas tree in memory of Judy’s mum, Liz Gibbins, who died of cancer four years ago.

The lights will be illuminated during ceremonies to be held at Saint Michael’s Hospice and at Ripon Cathedral this December.

Judy said:

We come to Light up a Life as a family to remember my mum and other family members who have been lucky enough to be cared for at Saint Michael’s.

It’s so hard when you lose someone you love but the care they offer at the Hospice is amazing, it makes Saint Michael’s such a magical place.

My daughter Ella hung a personalised memory star on the tree last year, she absolutely loved decorating the star for her nanny.

Light up a Life is something special we can take part in as a family every year – we wouldn’t miss it.

The first Light up a Life event will take place on Sunday 9 December 2012 at Saint Michael’s Hospice, Harrogate and the second on Sunday December 16 at Ripon Cathedral.

Saint Michael’s make no charge for the dedications of lights, although all donations are gratefully received.
Donations from last year’s event totalled £48,000 including Gift Aid.

All donations from this appeal will help the Harrogate-based charity ensure more local people get the care and support they need to live their last years, months and days with choice, respect and dignity.
