Local MP releases guide to saving money on energy bills

3 December 2012

Harrogate and Knaresborough MP, Andrew Jones, has produced a booklet designed to help constituents save money whilst staying warm this winter.

The guide – called ‘How to save money on your energy bills’, produced with support from tadea, an organisation with expertise in helping to save energy, gives advice on what you can do to reduce your energy bills.

The booklet contains advice and case studies showing how bills can be lowered and also gives information on financial support available to customers who have difficulty paying their gas and electricity bills.

Andrew said:

Winter is the most expensive time of the year when it comes to energy bills.

That is why it is important to help families who struggle with the cost of heating the home by providing all the information they need to make savings.

Alan Jones, tadea’s Strategic Business Development Manager, said:

At tadea, we believe that everyone deserves a warm and comfortable home. No one should have to fear the onset of the winter months – but with rising fuel bills, we’re finding that this is increasingly the case.

Luckily, there is a lot that can be done to help people stay warm in winter, and this guide is packed with practical advice which will help people stay cosy whilst reducing the amount of energy they use – saving money and carbon as a result.

On top of energy efficiency advice, this guide contains information on switching tariffs, and provides sources of help for those who require additional financial support. Also included are details of the tadea free* insulation scheme, which will help people make even greater savings on their energy bills.

Andrew’s heating guide comes hot on the heels of a Government announcement to forcing energy suppliers to offer their customers the best deals.

Under these proposals:

  • Households will no longer face hundreds of tariffs, with energy companies limited to four tariffs per fuel.
  • Energy companies will have to make bills simpler for customers to understand, and outline personalised information on the cheapest tariff that they can offer.
  • Households will be moved onto the cheapest tariff under their supplier that suits them.
  • With over £300 difference between the cheapest and the most expensive tariffs on the market, the Prime Minister’s action is likely to make a significant difference to local people here in Harrogate, Knaresborough and Boroughbridge who are worried about their energy bills.

Andrew said:

Households across our area can benefit from this guide to get their energy bills down.

I am going to make it available in libraries, the council’s offices, online and from my office for anyone who wants their own copy.
