York College Day Nursery to stay closed until November

27 September 2012

PolicePete Dwyer, City of York Council’s Director of Adults, Children and Education has today written to parents of children at York College day nursery.

This follows the College’s decision that the nursery should remain closed until at least 5 November 2012

A three-year-old girl suffered serious injuries in the outdoor play area at York College Nursery, on 17 Sept 2012.

The girl was taken to York District Hospital, where sadly she was pronounced dead.

An investigation is continuing involving North Yorkshire Police, Ofsted, the Health & Safety Executive and York College. Whilst all involved are working intensively and effectively together, the Police investigation is not concluded. As a result, the college has decided that the nursery should remain closed whilst the investigation proceeds.

A spokesperson said:

The letter provides parents with details of the support available through the Family Information Service, to help them secure alternative childcare. It also details other advice and services available through the team.
