Harrogate greengrocer to sell all orange goods half-price for cancer charity

24 September 2012

Peter Weatherhead, owner of Regal Fruiterers on Kings Road, Harrogate will hold a ‘Half-price Orange Saturday’ fundraising event on Saturday 6 October from 8am to 5pm to raise money for the cancer charity Myeloma UK.

Myeloma UK is the only cancer organisation in the UK dedicated to myeloma, a debilitating and incurable bone marrow cancer. Myeloma is the second most common blood cancer with approximately 4,500 people in the UK diagnosed each year, but a recent survey showed that only 3% of people knew what it was.

Peter said:

I had never heard of myeloma until my father-in-law, Bruce Pierpoint was diagnosed. I want to do my bit to support the charity that has helped him so much and raise awareness of this terrible cancer at the same time.

The Myeloma UK signature colour is bright orange, so for one day, I’m going to sell everything orange at half-price and donate all the proceeds to Myeloma UK. The sale will include every orange fruit and vegetable you can think of from pumpkins to carrots and oranges to apricots.

‘Half price orange Saturday’ is only the start of Peter’s fundraising campaign as he has also signed-up for the Liverpool Marathon which takes place on 14 October.

All the money raised will help Myeloma UK fund research which aims to find better and safer treatments for myeloma patients. The funds will also help the charity continue to provide information and support to patients and their loved ones, as well as educational and awareness programmes for healthcare professionals.

You can contribute by buying something orange at the Regal Fruiterers, Harrogate on Saturday 6 October between 8am and 5pm or you can make an online donation at www.justgiving.com/Peter-Weatherhead
