Day of fun in Harrogate’s Valley Gardens – 1 August 2012

1 August 2012

On National Playday (1 August) and throughout the summer of 2012, thousands of children, young people and communities will get out to play at hundreds of locally organised events across the UK.

Locally, Harrogate Borough Council’s play development officer is going to make sure that children and their parents get the chance to play together at a spectacular event being held in the Valley Gardens between 11.00am and 4.00pm. The day will be packed full of exciting and stimulating activities including free pitch and putt and crazy golf

This year’s theme is about the importance of a healthy life style while having fun outdoors.

There will be cub karts; bungee trampolines; tree climbing; model boating; laser combat; archery, fairground rides, and much much more. There will be a charge for some of the bigger attractions but all providers have promised to make a donation to the Mayor’s charity (Harrogate Branch of Candlelighters). Other attractions will be free of charge.

The day is being organised by the council’s play development officer, Jane Whittaker, who is extremely grateful for all the support she is getting from the local community to make sure the day goes with a swing.

Jane said:

This will be the fourth year that this event has taken place and each year it is getting bigger and better with many local businesses and organisations promoting what is available for parents in our district.

The activities range from large attractions to stands and stalls plus such things as face painting, glitter art, rocket making, arts and crafts with the Activity Rangers and sports activities with our Sports Development team.

There will also be a classic fire engine along with the 4Youth van, and mobile police unit.

We look forward to seeing families enjoying a pleasant and exciting day together on Wednesday 1 August 2012 from 11am to 4pm
