Harrogate and Knaresborough MP, Andrew Jones, is calling for local organisations to host him for his third annual Volunteer Week.
Mr Jones takes time out of his constituency diary every year to spend a week working as a volunteer with local organisations and he plans to do it again this October. By doing so he hopes to encourage more people to offer their time to charities in the area.
Andrew is asking charities and organisations to come forward and involve him in a day of hands-on work alongside other volunteers.
Andrew said:
The idea of Volunteer Week came about because I wanted to support the important role of the volunteer in our community and to raise the profile of charities and volunteer organisations in the constituency.
I will work as a volunteer for different charities every day and I’m looking for charities and voluntary organisations to help.
My main aim of this week is to motivate people in the community to go out and volunteer their time to help others. I’m an active volunteer with a number of community groups, and there is nothing more rewarding.
Last year Andrew served coffee at Age UK Knaresborough, helped staff in ASDA fundraise for a breast cancer campaign, worked at St Michael’s Hospice’s in-patients unit, answered the phones at Harrogate Advocacy, worked outdoors with Forest School, loaded medical equipment to ship out to Johannesburg with PhysioNet and even joined Harrogate Town Pastors on their regular patrols on a Friday night.
