Leeds Police issue an appeal following fatal road accident

Police are appealing for information following a fatal road traffic collision on Argie Avenue, Kirkstall, in which a 49-year-old local man died after being hit by a stolen BMW vehicle.

The incident occurred just after 11.30pm on Saturday 23rd June when the black 3 series BMW collided with a maroon coloured Skoda Octavia private hire vehicle between the junctions of Woodside View and Burley Wood Lane.

The 49-year-old male driver of the Skoda was taken to hospital but died a short time later.

The occupants of the BMW, who are believed to be two males, abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene in the direction of Woodside View.

Detective Superintendent Mark Ridley, from West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said:

I am appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information about the occupants of the BMW, which was stolen from the Headingley area of Leeds on 2 June, to contact police.

The area of Argie Avenue around the site of the collision is expected to remain closed throughout today as the scene continues to undergo forensic examination.
