1 in 5 in Harrogate would install energy efficient features to save the planet

The Federation of Master Builders is urging Harrogate homeowners to nominate their builder as the greenest builder in Harrogate in this year’s FMB Master Builder of the Year Awards, with a £3K prize for the homeowner and a new Nissan van for the winning builder.

As the FMB launches its search for Harrogate greenest builder, a new report has revealed that despite the recession, 1 in 5 homeowners would install energy efficient features to save the planet.

Almost a fifth – 17% of Harrogate homeowners – said that despite the financial constraints imposed by the recession, they would install solar panels, wind turbines or other energy efficient equipment because they “care deeply” about the environment.

In a case of keeping up with the Jones’, 1 in 5 (21%) would go green to modernise their home or make it look more up to date, but inevitably the majority (79%) would install energy efficiency measures to add value to their home and counter rising home energy costs.

This research was carried out as part of the Master Builder of the Year Awards – the search for the best builder in the UK. The energy efficiency category has seen a dramatic rise in entries over the past few years, reflecting people embracing eco-solutions as part of their building work. This year’s search for the greenest builders comes as the average household energy bill is predicted to rise to above £1,500 by 2015 which will result in people having to ration their energy use.*

Phil Parkinson, Yorkshire and Trent regional director of the FMB said:

Knowledge of green technologies is now part and parcel of many good builders’ toolkit as homeowners consider energy efficient options and this is reflected in some excellent entries for the greenest builder category in the Master Builder of the Year Awards.

If you know of a great builder who has embraced energy efficiency technologies in creating your home or who has successfully completed a building project, displaying quality workmanship and excellent customer service, then enter them into the Master Builder of the Year Awards now.

Every year the FMB celebrates the best of British building through the Master Builder of the Year Awards, the search for the best builder in Britain. If you have used a great builder, nominate them for the Master Builder of the Year Awards 2012 at www.fmb.org.uk/MBOYAwards
