Lightwater Valley invites public to take part in Ultimate Ride-a-Thon to raise vital funds for chosen charity Yorkshire Air Ambulance

Lightwater Valley has chosen Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA) as its nominated charity for 2012.

As part of this partnership between Lightwater Valley and YAA, the two have organised a special YAA Day at Lightwater on Yorkshire Day, Wednesday 1 August that will involve a whole host of exciting activities.

The highlight will be an Ultimate ‘Ride-a-Thon’ with 76 passengers paying a minimum of £100 each in aid of YAA to stay on the Europe’s longest rollercoaster – the Ultimate – for an hour (10 laps, 15 miles) before the park opens to the public for the day, raising £7600 for the charity.

The Ultimate ‘Ride-a-Thon’ may well be repeated after the park has closed to the public for the day, thereby raising a further £7600.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance is an independent charity providing a life saving rapid response emergency service to 5 million people across Yorkshire. It flies seven days a week, 365 days a year, covering a vast landscape that not only includes major cities and motor ways, but also rural and isolated locations.

To keep providing this lifesaving service, the charity needs to raise £7200 per day to keep both of Yorkshire’s Air Ambulances maintained and in the air. The generosity that YAA receives is the life blood of the charity and without this generosity would not be able to provide the service that it is so proud of.

Ashley Young, Marketing Manager of Lightwater Valley, said

We’re extremely proud to be able to nominate the Yorkshire Air Ambulance as our chosen charity for the year.

The people working for YAA provide an absolutely brilliant service, saving lives on a daily basis across Yorkshire – but it’s a charity, and without help from the donors, they simply won’t be able to afford to keep flying.

We think the Ultimate Ride-a-Thon is a really fun way to raise money for the YAA and look forward to taking on the challenge with other people that want to help raise vital funds for the charity.

Abby McClymont, Marketing Manager of the YAA, added:

This is by far one of our most exciting fundraisers yet!

We are thrilled that Lightwater Valley has chosen to support the YAA this year and we are very much looking forward to helping them raise as much money as possible for the YAA over the next 12 months.

We’re looking for as many people as possible to sign up to the ‘Ultimate Ride-a-thon’ and make it one of the biggest and best fundraising events the YAA has ever seen!

Lightwater Valley Theme Park in Ripon, North Yorkshire is home to over 40 rides and attractions. After developing from a self-picking strawberry farm, rides were introduced in 1987, transforming it into a modern day theme park. Some of the key attractions include ‘The Ultimate’ – which is the longest rollercoaster in Europe – and Skeleton Cove, the recently introduced pirate-themed section that includes Skull Rock, Pirate Swings, Powder Kegs, Flying Cutlass and Black Pearl rides.

To sign up for the ‘Ultimate Ride-a-thon and request an application pack, please contact Sophie Wilkinson at YAA HQ on 01422 237900 or email s.wilkinson@yaa.org.uk
