24 May 2012

Harrogate International Festivals is shaking up the North of England’s cultural landscape by bringing London’s hottest trend to Yorkshire. SALON, a kind of revolutionary movement for the heart and mind, consists of a night of the most stimulating ideas in art, science and psychology, promising a great night out that’s designed to change your life for the better.

The inaugural SALON North event on 12 April sold out in just a few days. Following hot on its heels, the second SALON North, presented by Harrogate International Festivals in partnership with SALON London, will take place at 7.30pm on Thursday 14 June at the St George Hotel in the centre of Harrogate, with an expected audience of around one hundred.

Expert presenters, hand-picked from the three disciplines of Psychology, Science and the Arts, will share their skills, spill their secrets and give the SALON crowd an exclusive peek in to their specialist fields.

First up will be neuroscientist Elaine Fox, asking you to consider if you’re a glass half full or half empty type of person, continuing with Susan Supercharged, who will be on hand with the materials and the sweet skills for you to learn just how to ‘Draw Like Picasso’, and finally, if you’ve ever dreamed of being able to make the people around you bend to your every whim, then you’ll welcome the insight into ‘The Art of Supersuasion’ with Kevin Dutton, an expert on social influence.

With each 30 minute slot designed to make a better, more informed, more engaged ‘you’, the whole experience will be interspersed with intervals, allowing time for a well-crafted gin and tonic. Tickets for 14 June are available now through the Harrogate International Festival Office on 01423 562 303 or online at www.harrogateinternationalfestivals.com, priced at £12.

The heady cultural cocktail of SALON North will make its next appearance in the Festival’s magnificent Spiegeltent on Wednesday 11 July, as part of the Harrogate Festival’s July programme, an eclectic mix of over 90 events, showcasing some of the very best in classical, jazz and world music, alongside a dedicated literary and lecture series and a fun filled Children’s Festival.

Full information will be made available on the Festival’s website here over the coming weeks www.harrogateinternationalfestivals.com/salon-north/

If you crave something a little different, with a friendly crowd and some of the UK’s most interesting speakers, SALON is most certainly for you…
