Harrogate fund raiser swaps Czechs for Cheques in top gear challenge

11 May 2012

A Harrogate fund-raiser has unveiled his driving ambition with a difference – completing a Top Gear challenge ahead of running in the Prague Marathon.

Chris Pugh is swapping Czechs for cheques as he prepares for a fund-raising double to boost the coffers of the charity, Carers’ Resource, and its offices in Harrogate and Ripon where he is a familiar face as a volunteer..

For not only is he competing in the 26-mile run – he has also set himself the task of travelling the 1,000 miles to get there in a “reasonably priced” car.

Preparing for the chequered flag…..Will Collinson and Chris Pugh are waved off en route to Prague by Melanie Evans of the Carers’ Resource

That task falls to the engine of ‘Sexi Lexi’ – a green 1996 Lexus with 130,000 miles on the clock – who will take Chris and his colleagues to the Czech Republic capital for the big race.

Chris Pugh said:

If ‘Sexi Lexi’ can do 1,000 miles, surely we can breeze through 26. We’re hoping she won’t let us down!

To support such a great local cause as The Carers’ Resource is a real honour. I work closely with it as a volunteer, supporting carers and vulnerable older people throughout the district.

I hope that people get behind our journey and donate generously, which will make such a difference to the charity and the work it does.

The charity’s Events and Fundraising Coordinator, Anne Wells, said:

We always appreciate every donation but this event is one that has really captured our imagination.

We wish Chris and his friends – as well as Sexi Lexi – the very best of luck in making it there and back in one piece.

Chris has set himself a target of £500. Donations can be made via his Just Giving page. www.justgiving.com/Chris-Pugh6
