Royal approval for Follifoot & Plompton Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Party

8 May 2012

Crowns are being polished and robes dry-cleaned in anticipation of the Follifoot and Plompton Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Big Party.

The party will be held on Bank Holiday Monday, 4 June 2012, from 2pm at Follifoot Village Hall, Tofts Lane and will feature fun and frolics for all the family.

The Big Party has received a royal seal of approval in the form of a letter from Buckingham Palace wishing the event well. It will certainly be a great day for all who attend. Children will be entertained by a circus skills show and workshop from Professor Fiddlesticks. They will also be able to test their agility in the ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ assault course, make crowns and help to produce a large card to send to HRH Queen Elizabeth II in the Craft Corner, plus have fun with lots of outdoor games. Bigger kids will be entertained by live music from local band, Fischer’s Ghost, and enjoy ‘Roast Inn’ hot sandwiches and socialising with friends and neighbours.

The village has been raising money for the big event all year including hosting the Follifoot and Plompton Indoor Bowls Quiz Night, an Opera North String Quartet concert and a safari supper, plus the Heritage Weekend organised by Follifoot Women’s Institute and the Games Night hosted by the Friends of Follifoot School which all helped to increase the total.

Anyone who has a ticket to a previous Follifoot & Plompton Diamond Jubilee event can swap it for free for a Big Party ticket at Follifoot Post Office. Tickets can also be purchased from the same place for £5. This entitles the ticket holder to a free roast sandwich as well as access to all the activities on the day.

Anne Dewsnip, Chair of Follifoot Social Committee, commented:

Follifoot is a very friendly village with a great community and everyone has pulled together to raise a fantastic amount of money for what hopes to be the party of the Queen’s reign. The Big Party will be a great event with something to entertain everyone and will certainly be a day to remember for many years to come. We look forward to seeing you there.
