Two lawyers at Harrogate firm, Raworths, have been promoted to Senior Associate status. Matthew Hill and Fionula Scanlan (pictured) who joined the firm in 2006 and 2007 respectively have achieved this promotion which is a recognition of their expertise and contribution to the firm which celebrates its 125th anniversary this year.
Matthew Hill specialises in civil and commercial litigation and has extensive experience in property-related disputes and insolvency. His expertise has brought him high-profile cases including acting for the Official Solicitor in a claim to annul a bankruptcy order made against a mentally incapable adult. This case was widely reported in the national media and brought about a debate about how local authorities should operate checks before commencing bankruptcy proceedings. Other important cases include acting for a pension fund in an application to the High Court for an administration order, advising on the enforcement of a judgement against the United States of America and acting for a group of private hospitals in the South-East of England in a high value claim against a local authority. Matt was previously at Turner Coulston in Northampton and is a member of the Property Litigation Association.
Fionula Scanlan is an experienced company and commercial lawyer. She advises businesses and not-for-profit clients on a variety of non-contentious aspects of their businesses. Her particular areas of expertise include business and share sales and acquisitions and commercial contracts. Fionula was previously a solicitor with Osborne Clarke and Harrowells and in-house solicitor and company secretary for Clariant Services Limited, the chemicals company where she gained invaluable experience working in industry.
