Harrogate Railway Ladies finish 2nd in the West Riding Premier League

29 April 2012

Harrogate Railway Ladies have finished 2nd in the West Riding Premier League following a big win against Ossett Town today (29 April .

Railway ladies were at home today in monsoon like conditions! With the game very much in doubt prior to kick off all Railway could do was concentrate on the game whilst trying to keeping warm!

Within 2 minutes of the kick off an excellent through ball by Nic Hadley found Sandra Clarke one on one with the Ossett keeper and Sandra stroked the ball home for the first of her impending hat trick. 2 minutes later and Railway were passing the ball for fun and purpose through midfield when the ball found its way to Sandra again to make it 2-0.

Railway were causing endless problems down the right by player of the match Nicola Hadley. Nicola hit a pin point cross to Hannah Campbell to score the 1st of her hat trick on 20 mins, 3-0 Railway. Within in minute of the restart slick passing from defence to the centre found Hannah again who slotted the ball home, 4-0 Railway.

Railway were well in their groove by now and it was time for midfield captain Jodi Hodgson to get on the score sheet by placing a right foot shot in the bottom corner. Half time 5-0 Railway.

It was agreed that a short 2nd half would be taken due to the ever deteriorating weather, but this did not stop the ladies as they soon found the net within the first 5 minutes, when an excellent curling shot by Ellie MacLeod fond the top left hand corner from 20 yards.

Both Hannah and Sandra completed their hat tricks in the 2nd half after amazing approach play, with Hannah Campbell’s 3rd being the goal of the game with 7 passes cutting open the Ossett defence before a cool finish. Jodi added another also with a fine strike into the opposite bottom corner from her 1st goal!

A fantastic display by the ladies who dealt with the adverse conditions to turn in a fantastic football show on a day when in hindsight the game should probably have never have taken place.
