13 April 2012

At around  20:30 on 13 April 2012 a car crashed into an electricity substation in Jennyfields, Harrogate, causing the substation to be burnt out and power cuts in the surrounding area.

The car had been reversed at speed into the building and it is believed that the Police have arrested a youth in connection with the incident.

Fire crews attended from the Harrogate and Ripon fire stations using various hose jets and a water curtain to protect an adjacent building.

Following confirmation from the Electricity Company that the substation had been isolated and earthed the fire was finally extinguished at 22:10

There were no injuries as a result of this incident but large areas of Jennyfields are currently without power.
