Get your laughing gear round Harrogate’s Hyena

20 March 2012

Harrogate’s best monthly chuckle fest, The Hyena Comedy Club, returns to Harrogate Theatre on Saturday 31 March at 8pm with a cracking line-up of four comedians guaranteed to have you rolling in the aisle.

UK circuit star and Key 103presenter Justin Moorhouse (MichaelMcIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, Phoenix Nights, Max & Paddy, 8 Out of 10 Cats) makes a welcome return to the Hyena. Moorhouse is the kind of man who can make a boiled egg hilarious, and thanks to his no-frills, genial stand-up, quite rightly one of the most sought-after comedy acts in the UK and abroad. The affable Manc has performed on such TV shows including Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, 8 out of 10 Cats and Dave’s One Night Stand.

“A brilliant entertainer” – The Stage

Also on the bill, Carl Hutchinson is a sharp young buck with bags of talent and energy, and has been known to captivate an audience as soon as he steps on stage. Hutchinson’s started his comedy career in 2007; within the space of a year, he’d bagged the Magner’s Pub Comedian Of The Year gong, been a finalist in the lauded So You Think You’re Funny competition, and was nominated for the Leicester Mercury’s Comedian of the Year award. He also starred in ITV’s 2010 series FHM Comedy Hero and has taken his smart shtick to Edinburgh in respected line-up show, Just The Tonic’s Big Value Comedy Showcase.

“Effortlessly hilarious” – Three Weeks

Currently taking the national circuit by storm, Barry Dodds is a natural clown. His mix of surprisingly dark and irrepressibly cheeky material has allowed him to forge an enviablereputation as a firm audience favourite. Dodds first took to the stage at the tender age of 21, and has since earned finalist places in the Jimmy Carr Comedy Idol competition and Jongleurs Last Laugh Comedy Search, as well as a semi-finalist spot in 2005’s BBC New talent Awards. Dodds was also ever comedian to perform on Luxembourg TV, on which he appeared back in 2006. Sharp of suit and of wit, Dodds is one of the UK circuit’s brightest young stars.

“Razor sharp humour” – Metro

Fast-thinking funnyman and Hyena compere for the evening, Dave Twentyman endears himself to the toughest of crowds thanks to his chatty style and deft gags. Twentyman was a quick mover – after just his 11th gig, he was on the telly, with a live appearance on started his career in the Northwest and by his 11th gig was making his first appearance on live television on ITV’s stand-up showcase ‘Made in the Northwest’. Following a recommendation from Alan Carr, Twentyman was made a regular guest on both BBC Radio Manchester and XFM.

During its seven-year residency at Harrogate Theatre, The Hyena Comedy Club has played host to many of today’s top comedy performers, including Jason Manford, Alan Carr, Mark Watson, Sarah Millican, Russell Howard, Rhod Gilbert, Richard Herring, Phill Jupitus and Chris Addison.
