Police hunt Knaresborough burglars

7 March 2012

Knaresborough Police are investigating two burglaries which they believe are connected.

The first burglary occurred at Aspin Way between 9am on Saturday 3 March and 9am on Sunday 4 March 2012, when burglars tried to enter the property. Luckily they entry to the property was not made and nothing was taken.

The second burglary occurred at a house on Aspin Oval between 6.30pm on Saturday 3 March and 1pm on Sunday 4 March 2012. The thieves stole a red Seat Leon from the driveway of the house. They also took several hundred pounds in £2 and 20p coins, which were bagged ready to be banked, a computer, jewellery and personal documents.

Detective Constable Chris Williams, of Harrogate CID, said:

I am appealing to anyone who can help to identify the people responsible for either of these burglaries to contact the police or Crimestoppers as soon as possible.

I urge home owners to take some simple steps to help prevent themselves from becoming the victims of crime.

Leave the car in a locked garage if you have one, or parked in a well lit public area and consider using a steering wheel lock and make sure that you keep the vehicle’s keys out of sight and in a safe place.

I would also ask that neighbours keep an eye out for each other and if they see any suspicious activity report it to the police immediately.

Anyone who can help the police with their enquiries is asked to contact Harrogate police on 101, press option 2 and ask for Chris Williams.

Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting reference number 12120034775.
