A Harrogate social enterprise is hoping a new sponsorship scheme will safeguard its vital skills training and work experience programmes for people with disabilities, mental health problems and other health related barriers to work in the wake of government cuts.
Paperworks says a number of trainee places are being supported from their reserves due to changes in government funding. They are seeking the support of local people and businesses to ensure all those that need support can to continue with their training.

Paperworks manager Damien Handslip explained:
We currently have places for eight trainees a day at our Harrogate centre on Hookstone Avenue but some of those attending no longer receive financial support from the agencies who referred them to us and we are struggling to meet their costs.
A registered charity, Paperworks became the first social enterprise in North Yorkshire to be awarded the Social Enterprise Mark in 2010 and recently launched an outreach service in Pateley Bridge.
Trainees are supported by volunteers and staff and work on businesses contracts including direct marketing, stock holding, order picking, print and print finishing and postal services.
Paperworks recently completed a major contract for BBC Children in Need assembling fundraising packs for the 2011 campaign.
Damien added:
Our programmes differ from many similar schemes in that they are specifically aimed at helping people into work and include job search support, advice on completing CVs and application forms and interview skills.
We have an excellent track record in helping people achieve employment at the end of their training.
We hope local businesses in particular will find this a positive way to support their community, fulfil their Corporate Social Responsibility targets and achieve some publicity.
The cost of providing each trainee place is £2,000 a year and Paperworks is keen to hear from anyone who may be interested in sponsoring a trainee for 12 months.
