Harrogate Digital welcomes business mentoring initiative

5 March 2012

Digital businesses in Harrogate are to benefit from fully funded mentoring thanks to European funding aimed at generating regional growth in the sector.

The business mentoring scheme will be delivered by SCY, formerly Science City York, which supports innovation and growth throughout north and west Yorkshire.

Full details of the initiative were recently presented to members of Harrogate Digital, a group of more than 200 technology focussed firms, by Paul Kelley of SCY who said the fully-funded service was being supported by the European Regional Development Fund Programme.

He said it was designed to support leaders in high growth SMEs to improve performance, competitiveness and profitability.

Daniel Harper of Harrogate Borough Council has been working closely with SCY to introduce the opportunity to Harrogate.

He said there were a significant number of digital businesses in the Harrogate District and he hoped the mentoring would help them remain competitive in a fast moving market.

Harrogate lawyer Paul Berwin, convenor of Harrogate Digital, facilitated the meeting with SCY and said the group welcomed the initiative:

The Harrogate district has a thriving digital sector as has been proved by the growth of Harrogate Digital, which developed from a LinkedIn group to an organisation with more than 200 members that discusses issues and shares expertise.

This recent meeting with SCY and Harrogate Borough Council to provide information about the new mentoring scheme demonstrates the strength of Harrogate Digital as a forum and support facility for what is a vital and vibrant sector in the area.
