Harrogate passengers get the first chance to collect tickets on departure

22 February 2012

ticketsHarrogate Chamber of Trade & Commerce and Harrogate Borough Council have welcomed the installation of a new machine at Harrogate Station that enables rail passengers to collect tickets on departure that have been pre-booked on line from any train operator.

Chief Executive Brian Dunsby said the Chamber, the Borough Council and our MP Andrew Jones have all been pressing Northern Rail to provide this facility, especially since the introduction of the new direct trains from Kings Cross to Harrogate last May.

East Coast Trains has confirmed that this new machine may be used for collecting their Advance Tickets which can be easily booked on line, offering large savings on normal walk-up fares, if you can specify which trains you wish to use

Drew Haley, Stakeholder Relations Manager at Northern Rail explained:

We have done this as Harrogate has a good call for tickets on departure and this is the first Northern station to get the new machine” It simply recognises the credit card used to book the tickets plus the Booking Reference and then prints out the tickets – for both outward and return journeys if needed.

Council Leader Don Mackenzie said:

This represented another positive step towards bringing rail facilities in Harrogate up to the standards enjoyed in other towns. Being able to select trains online and to collect tickets from the new machine gives our residents a degree of ease and self-sufficiency which is very welcome.
