Witnesses needed as elderly Ripon woman fights for life

Harrogate PolicePolice investigating a collision in Ripon which left an elderly woman fighting for her life are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The victim, a 74-year-old local woman is in a critical condition in Leeds General Infirmary after suffering a severe head injury when she was hit by a black Vauxhall Corsa as she crossed the A61 at Hutton Bank on Monday 9 January 2012.

The victim had been shopping in Ripon prior to the collision, which occurred at around 3.35pm.

Police appealed for witnesses in the days following the incident, but so far nobody has contacted them with information.

Officers are returning to the scene of the collision between 2.30pm and 4pm today, where they will be stopping drivers in an effort to gather the information they need to support the investigation.

Traffic Sergeant Pete Stringer, of North Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Group, said:

Unfortunately, as a result of this collision, an elderly lady is seriously ill in hospital.

We need people to come forward an help with our investigation, so we can establish exactly what happened.

I urge anyone who witnessed the collision itself or saw either the pedestrian or the black Vauxhall Corsa prior to the collision to get in touch with the police as soon as possible.
