Local duo ‘disctracted’ through to Open Mic Uk final

Disctracted from Harrogate wowed the crowd and judging panel at the Open Mic UK Area Showcase, and are now through to the grand final of Open Mic UK.

After taking part in auditions against thousands of other unsigned musicians across the UK and impressing the judging panel with their vocals, they went on to perform live on stage, battling through both Regional and Area final heats. They’re now set to perform at the Open Mic UK Grand Final at the O2 Arena in London on 21st January 2012!

DanielleThey performed an acoustic medley of Lady Ga Ga’s “Born this Way” and David Guetta’s “Love Takes Over”. They were the only act to get a standing ovation from the judges.

The judges comments included “Disctracted –Gorgeous harmonies. Just amazing. Liked the mash up.”

Disctracted are Emily and Danielle Atkinson aged 13 and 11. Both girls attend St Aidens High School in Harrogate.

This is the second time Disctracted have entered Open Mic UK. Last year they got all the way through to the final of the Under 18 section at the O2 Arena and came third behind Hatty Keane. A fantastic achievement for the youngest competitors in the final.

Over 10 thousand acts entered Open Mic UK 2011 and the best unsigned singers from across the country were chosen to perform at the live Regional Final shows. Disctracted performed in front of a live audience and professional judging panel.

Disctracted also got through to the finals of Live and Unsigned UK at the O2 in July last year and came in the top 5 out of their genreagain a fantastic achievement for the youngest in the Pop section.

Also in 2011 Danielle was put forward by her former school, Green Hammerton Primary School, for the national Schools Got Talent competition. Danielle won the competition and received a fantastic trophy and certificate.

EmilyThe competition is divided into age categories; 16 and Under, 17-22 and 23 and Over; all types of singers, vocal performers, groups and acoustic singer/songwriters are invited to enter Open Mic UK.

There’s over £50,000 in prizes up for grabs this year and the overall winner will be offered a recording contract, with up to £30,000 investment! They’ll also have the opportunity to tour across the UK.

There are plenty of development opportunities available to acts taking part courtesy of ICMP, who will be offering songwriting courses and master classes throughout the competition. The latter stages of the competition will also provide acts with the opportunity to impress many guests from record labels, agencies and the entertainment industry.

Open Mic UK is the biggest music talent competition in the UK for unsigned singers and solo artists. Every year over 9, 000 musicians enter the competition and it’s open to all genres, from rap and hip hop to acoustic and classical, the competition has it all. Whatever happens, The Grand Final of the competition will provide acts with the opportunity to impress many guests from record labels, agencies and the entertainment industry including celebrity judges to be confirmed ahead of the final.
