Andrew Jones MP promoted in mini-reshuffle

4 January 2012

Andrew Jones MPHarrogate & Knaresborough MP Andrew Jones has been promoted following a change to Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) positions. Mr Jones, formerly PPS to the Minister of State for Enterprise is now PPS to the Secretary of State for Transport, Justine Greening MP.

As a PPS to the Secretary of State, Mr Jones will provide a critical link between backbench MPs and the Cabinet Minister and through the backbenchers to grass roots opinion in the country at large. While entailing a greater Parliamentary workload the role does not attract any salary increase.

Commenting on his promotion Mr Jones said:

I was surprised and honoured to get the call asking me to take on this new role and it is one which I am keen to do well. Transport is critical for the economic growth of our country and for enabling us to compete internationally.

It is also an important issue for us locally. Since I became the Member of Parliament I have been highlighting the need for rail investment in the north, and was pleased to be a part of the team working to secure our first direct rail service from London to Harrogate in many years.

While this is a role with greater responsibilities in Parliament, my main priority remains the Harrogate and Knaresborough constituency and the people who – like me – live there.
