Award Winning Harrogate Hospital Volunteers

On the afternoon of the 9th December 2011, Harrogate Hospital hosted a tea party and awards ceremony as a thank you for the hard work over the year and to acknowledge the time and effort given for free.

The room was filled with hundreds of volunteers, all who give many hours of time for free to the Hospital. On arrival they were entertained by the St Aidan’s Church of England High School String Quartet and members of the Chamber Choir.

Sandra Dodson, Chairman of Harrogate & District NHS Foundation Trust opened the awards paying thanks to the dedication and support given.

Dignitaries present for the awards were The High Sheriff of North Yorkshire, The Mayor and Mayoress of the Borough of Harrogate, Less Ellington and Andrew Jones, MP.

MP Andrew Jones speaking to the volunteers:

We have one of the best Hospitals in the country and volunteers really make a difference. That’s now official as it his received top marks in a recent CCQ audit. Thank you all for making such a difference.

David Simister, who was one of a number of volunteers to be recognized for 20 years service, said:

I’m very proud to be a volunteer at Harrogate District Hospital and I love the role I do, which is within Harrogate Hospital Radio.

Volunteering is extremely rewarding and I would recommend it everyone. Age is no barrier and neither is the time you have to give.
