Harrogate Town pre-match preview against Barrow AFC

9 December 2011

Harrogate Town FCHarrogate Town make the long trek up to Cumbria this Saturday to face old foes Barrow AFC in the 1st Round of the F.A. Trophy.

It has been a while since both teams have faced one another as after an amazing second half of the season turn around, Barrow raced into and secured a play-off final win to gain them promotion to the Blue Square Bet Premier in 2007/2008. Barrow have also had success in this contest having won it in 2010 although they were dumped out of it at the first hurdle against Gusieley AFC last season.

This season sees The Bluebirds sitting in 11th place having won 7 of the 12 games placed at the Furness Building Society Stadium this season. Their leading goalscorer is former York City player Adam Boyes who has scored fourteen goals in all competitions so far.

Barrow AFC managed to get to the 1st round of the FA Cup this season and only bowed out of it 2-1 courtesy of two late goals by Rotherham United.

Their last match saw them grab a 1-1 draw with Ebbesfleet United in front of 1047 fans.

Town’s last meeting with Barrow happened in 2007-2008 when neither teams were able to claim any bragging rights. Both games ended in a 2-2 draw with Mark Hume scoring both goals at Wetherby Road and claiming one of them up at Holker Street (the other one being an own goal)

Hopefully, apart from the known absentees – Danny Stimpson, Adam Nowakowski, Liam Hardy and Chris Elliott, Harrogate will have Stephen Turnbull and Lee Elam back for this match. There are no known suspension worries for Simon Weaver.

Town will enter this match with plenty of confidence following their 4-0 victory over Colwyn Bay and will be looking to cause an upset in the competition.

If a replay is needed then it will be on Tuesday 13th December at the CNG Stadium (Kick-off 7:45pm) if there are any changes to this then they will be posted on this website.
