29 November 2011

North Yorkshire SportHarrogate Town Football Club is calling on local people in the community to get involved in the running of the club by working with North Yorkshire Sport to provide volunteer opportunities. Currently in the process of acquiring the formal status of a Charitable Club, Harrogate Town AFC is looking for volunteers to help out on a wide variety of duties from administrative work to stewarding and catering.

The club is one of the first local sports organisations to register as a placement provider on the Sport Makers programme, which had its first volunteering workshop in Harrogate on the 28th November.

Funded by Sport England and delivered locally by North Yorkshire Sport, the Sport Makers initiative aims to bring the spirit of the Olympic and Paralympic Games to life within local communities, helping to get people more active and engaged with sport across the country.

  • The scheme hopes to recruit, train and deploy 40,000 new sports volunteers nationally
  • As a placement provider, Harrogate Town AFC has committed to offering volunteering opportunities of a minimum of 10 hours, offering a diverse range of opportunities within the management and day to day operations of the club
  • Currently in the Blue Square Bet North League, Harrogate Town has recently become a Community Club and is in the process of becoming an official Charitable Club, a status that reflects the club’s determination to become more active within local projects, schemes and programmes

David Watson, Executive Director of North Yorkshire Sport said:

We’re delighted that Harrogate Town AFC has registered as a Sport Makers placement provider.

The club are a really important part of the local sporting community and having them on board sends out a really strong message that Sport Makers will offer great volunteering opportunities.

We hope that other local sport clubs and organisations in the area will follow suit and get involved.
