Owner of Army service medals sought

28 November 2011

Police are trying to trace the owner of a collection of Army service medals which have been recovered in York.

The medals were found during a warrant conducted under the Theft Act at a property in the Acomb area.

Officers have been making enquiries to find out who the medals belong to but have so far been unable to trace the owner.

There are six medals in total which were issued in 1934, 1935 and 1936. They have the name J.Walsh engraved on one side and were found along with three blue presentation cases.

PC Andy Chapman, of Acomb Safer Neighbourhood Team, is keen to reunite the medals with their rightful owner as soon as possible.

These medals clearly belong to someone who has suffered the heartbreak of having them stolen and I would very much like for them to be returned.

They look like Army service medals rather than war medals and I am hoping that someone will recognise them and come forward to claim them back.

If the medals are yours or you know who they may belong to, please get in touch so we can return them to the person who rightfully owns them.

Anyone who can help the police with their enquiries is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police, on 0845 60 60 24 7 – select option 2 – and ask for PC Andy Chapman, or Acomb police.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting reference number 12110063984.
