Freemasons have given two North Yorkshire organisations £2,000 to help them with the valuable work they do within their local community.
Ripon’s Scuba Diving for All has been presented with £1,500 for new equipment whilst Blind Jack’s Explorer Scout Unit, in Knaresborough, has been given £500, again for new equipment.
The money has been donated by West Riding Masonic Charities, which, in total have just given £49,100 to 39 different charities and community organisations throughout the region.
West Riding Masonic Charities spokesman Roger Newhouse said:
After the National Lottery, Freemasons are the biggest single givers to charity in the country.
Without the generosity of our members, we would not be able to offer so much monetary support to so many different organisations. I’m extremely proud of the charitable work we do, day in day out.
Even though the economic climate is extremely challenging, we are determined to play our role in supporting the local communities we live and work in. That’s what freemasonry is all about.
