Harrogate fireman apprehends Tesco’s burglar

Fire ServiceThe North Yorkshire Fire Service were called to the Harrogate Superdrug on Cambridge Street at 21:19 last night (4th November 2011) with reports of a smell of burning.

Units were deployed from Harrogate and Knaresborough with the aerial platform also attending.

Whilst the fire crews waited for a key holder to arrive, the fireman in the aerial platform cradle noticed a man exit the adjacent Tesco’s Store being closely followed by a member of the Tescos staff. The fireman  thought it looked very suspicious so jumped from the platform and apprehended the man.

Minutes before the man had burgled the Tesco store of a substantial amount of money and was arrested at the scene by Police.

A 33 year old man has now been charged with burglary and will appear before Harrogate Magistrates Court on Monday morning.
