Performers wanted for new musical

4 November 2011

“Billy”, the musical version of the play Billy Liar will be Ripon Amateur Operatic Society’s next show to be performed at Harrogate Theatre from 18th – 21st April 2012.

The Society are looking for people of all ages who enjoy singing and performing. Dancers are also required for some of the more lively numbers, some of which will involve tap dancing. The Society’s Director and Choreographer will be holding extra tap classes for anyone wishing to learn or brush up on their skills.

The Ripon based Society, who most recently performed Oliver and Half a Sixpence at Harrogate Theatre, and Jesus Christ Superstar at Ripon Cathedral are holding a Welcome Evening at 7.30pm on 11 November 2011 at their rehearsal hall, Water Skellgate, Ripon, for anyone wanting to find out more about the show and be involved. The Society rehearse every Friday.

“Billy” is a strong, funny and fast-paced show, with outstanding songs such as “Ambrosia” and “Some Of Us Belong To The Stars”. The main character (originally played by Michael Crawford) is a dreamer – and a liar. Not content with his life in Yorkshire with his Mum, Dad, and Gran, he believes he is destined for greatness – a film star, a scriptwriter – and anything else glamorous that could occur to him! However, nobody else believes him, certainly none of his three girlfriends! Those around him have to suffer the consequences of his fantasies and habitual lying, while Billy lives in a world of daydreams frantically trying to find his way out of the lies he has created.
