Changes proposed to constituency boundaries in the region

13 September 2011

The Boundary Commission for Engand have proposed changes to the constituency boundaries in the region.

The Boundary Commission for England is an independent and impartial non-departmental public body which is responsible for reviewing Parliamentary constituency boundaries in England.

Under rules laid down by parliament the number of constituencies must reduce from 533 to 502 and each constituency must have between 72,810 and 80,473 although there are two exceptions.

Under new rules the Yorkshire and the Humber region has been allocated 50 constituencies – a reduction of 4 from the current arrangement.

Five of the 54 existing constituencies remain unchanged.

North and West Yorkshire will reduce from 30 to 28 constituencies
