Visitors strike a pose for the Yorkshire Haven

22 August 2011

Visitors to the Yorkshire Haven experienced a taste of the super-model lifestyle at a recent fashion show at the beautiful Goldsbrough Hall near Harrogate. The event, in aid of The Haven breast cancer support centre showcased clothes from Debenhams in the White Rose Centre, Jigsaw in the Victoria Quarter in Leeds and hats from Racy Little Numbers millinery.

Taking to the catwalk and modelling this seasons key looks were Visitors to The Haven who have all experienced breast cancer. As well as being treated to a make-over by Nouveau Beauty Group they were taught how to strut their stuff by experts from The Model Experience.

The event was hosted by BBC presenter Georgey Spanswick and raised over £1,000 for The Haven, enough to cover the cost of one Visitor to receive their programme of support. The Haven is a national charity with centres in Leeds, London and Hereford.

It is the only national breast cancer charity that provides one-to-one support to improve the quality of life of anyone affected by breast cancer.

Working in partnership with the NHS, The Haven offers a free integrated breast cancer support service. Specialist nurses and experts in nutrition, exercise and emotional support provide tailor-made programmes for each Visitor.

The Haven in Yorkshire has helped support over 980 women and one man since opening in 2008.

Leonie Saysell, Visitor and Model for a day says:

At a time when our world feels like it is falling apart, The Haven offers us a place to relax, reflect and take stock. I am proud that I played a small part in the fashion show and thrilled that the event has raised enough to help another person through The Haven’s invaluable programme of counselling and support. It has also been a much needed pick-me-up to be pampered and made over for our debut on the catwalk. We are grateful to Goldsborough Hall and all the companies that made this event happen for The Haven.

Goldsborough Hall owner Clare Oglesby said:

We were delighted to host The Haven Fashion Show and were glad to be able to lend our historic venue for such a great cause, we were thrilled that the charity raised such a lot of money.
