Ten arrests in Leeds following last weeks incidents

15 August 2011

Ten arrests have been made in the Leeds area following last weeks incidents in the City. In total there have been 26 arrests across the West Yorkshire region.

As part of these arrests, a 15 year old male appeared before Leeds Magistrates this morning (15th August) in connection with a robbery of a takeaway driver on Reginald Street in Chapletown in early hours of Wednesday 10th August.

Four teenagers aged between 14 and 17 were arrested in Chapeltown in relation to incidents in the local area who are currently in custody.

In the meantime, officers will be conducting searches of a number of properties in connection with these arrests.

Assistant Chief Constable John Parkinson is in charge of tonight’s policing operation.

ACC Parkinson said:

Officers are working around the clock to identify those responsible for the disorder and other criminal activity we have seen this week so they can be quickly brought to justice.

I would once again like to thank the vast majority of people within these communities, who have been incredibly supportive of their local officers. I would also ask for their patience as we continue working to trace the very small minority who have been involved in these incidents.

Our Neighbourhood Policing Teams are committed to working closely with local people to keep their communities safe, by ensuring there is a larger and more visible presence to offer reassurance and to tackle incidents at the earliest opportunity.
