Harrogate police hunt windmill thieves

26 July 2011

Police in Harrogate are appealing for information following the theft of a windmill.

The wooden model was taken from the garden of a house on St Andrew’s Avenue in the town between 11.30pm on Tuesday 19 July and 7.30am Wednesday 20 July 2011.

The windmill is just over a metre in height and marked with the owner’s details. At the time of the theft it was secured to the ground so the thieves will have had to use force to remove it.

PC Lynsey Ridout, of the Harrogate Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “The theft of the windmill, which was brought from Germany by the couple’s son, has left them very upset.

“This is a particularly heartless theft, as the owners of the house are well known locally for their impressive Christmas displays which they use to raise money for charity.

“I ask that anyone who knows anything about this theft, or can identify those responsible, to contact the police as soon as possible.”

If you can assist with this investigation please contact PC Lynsey Ridout at Harrogate police station on 0845 60 60 24 7 quoting reference number 12110120455, Or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
