Habitat UK has been placed into administration by Hilco UK, the retail restructuring specialist, which purchased Habitat in 2009.

Habitat in the UK will reduce to three London stores, an on-line store and a number of concessions in Homebase’s DIY shops, after Home Retail agreed to buy the brand rights and its flagship stores for £24.5 million.

The remaining 30 stores around the UK, including Harrogate will be closed or sold off.

Habitat has failed to make a profit since 2004/2005 financial year.
